August generally invites us to slow down, embrace the warmth, and surrender to the present. It’s a time of transition—summer lingers, yet a shift is on the horizon. This August, I move to Austin from New York to attend UT Austin. It is a time of great change, excitement and anxiety for me. So I call you to join me and focus on deep breaths, mindful movement, and the art of letting go this month, both on and off the mat.
Flow with the Rhythm of Summer’s End
As the days stretch long and golden, allow your practice to mirror nature’s rhythm. Breathe deeply, soften where you hold tension, and move with a sense of ease. Let each inhale bring renewal, and each exhale create space for release.
Poses to Cultivate Ease & Expansion
- Incorporate these grounding and heart-opening postures into your practice to welcome balance and fluidity:
- Half Moon (Ardha Chandrasana): A pose of strength and lightness—find stability while opening up to possibility.
- Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana): A gentle surrender, encouraging introspection and release.
- Reclining Bound Angle (Supta Baddha Konasana): A restorative posture to open the heart, hips, and breath, allowing deep relaxation.
Off the Mat: Savoring the Stillness
August is an invitation to be present, to cherish the warmth, and to create space for what’s ahead:
- Slow Mornings: Begin the day with deep, intentional breaths before reaching for your phone or to-do list.
- Ground in Nature: Take a sunset walk, swim in open water, or simply sit under a tree, absorbing the season’s quiet wisdom.
- Nourish & Hydrate: Savor summer’s fruits, drink plenty of water, and listen to what your body craves.
Closing with Gratitude
As your practice comes to a close, take a moment to rest. Breathe in the fullness of summer, and exhale any resistance to change. Trust in the flow of the seasons—just as the sun begins its gentle descent, you, too, are in a beautiful cycle of growth and renewal.
Let this month be a reminder to pause, breathe, and embrace each moment with an open heart.
With love and light, Lola
