Softening Into the End of the Year

December in Austin is a time of quiet beauty—cooler air, twinkling lights strung across South Congress, and a collective exhale as the year winds to a close. It’s a season of softness, reflection, and rest.

For me, December also means flying home to London, reuniting with family, and reconnecting with the familiar comforts of the place where I grew up. Whether you’re staying rooted or traveling far, this month offers a gentle invitation to pause, reflect, and honor the space between endings and new beginnings.

Embracing the Pause: A Mindful Transition

As the holidays approach and the year comes to a close, December asks us to slow down and let go. Much like the trees surrendering their leaves, we’re reminded that true renewal begins with release.

Whether I’m strolling through Austin’s Trail of Lights or wrapping up warmly for a London walk through Covent Garden, my yoga practice becomes my anchor—offering presence, stillness, and peace through it all.

Best Restorative Yoga Poses for Stillness & Surrender

This month, focus on restorative yoga that encourages reflection, grounding, and gentle release. These poses are ideal for slowing down and honoring where you are:

  • Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani)
A calming pose for easing travel fatigue, relaxing the nervous system, and grounding your energy.
  • Reclined Butterfly (Supta Baddha Konasana)
Soften the heart space and let the body rest as you release tension and receive.
  • Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana)
Invite introspection with this quiet, inward-facing posture. Breathe deeply and surrender.
  • Savasana with a Blanket
Wrap yourself in warmth and stillness. Let this be your invitation to rest deeply.

Off the Mat: Seasonal Mindfulness in Austin & London

Wherever you are this season, be it Austin or abroad, December offers countless ways to reconnect and reflect.

  • Take a Light-Filled Stroll
In Austin, immerse yourself in the glow of Trail of Lights. In London, explore Winter Wonderland or a peaceful walk along the Thames.
  • Cozy Up With a Cup
Whether it’s hot cocoa at Mozart’s on the lake or traditional tea in a London café, let a warm drink become a grounding ritual.
  • Reflect & Release
Journal three things you’re grateful for from the year—and three things you’re ready to release. Let this practice create space for what’s next.
  • Let Music Hold You
From live music under Austin’s sky to soft Christmas carols in a cozy London flat, let music soothe your spirit.

Closing with Intention

As I leave the warmth of Austin to spend time with family in London, I’m reminded that home is not just a place—it’s a feeling. It’s presence, gratitude, and the quiet exhale that comes with rest.

Wherever you are this December, allow space for silence. For breath. For stillness.
This is a sacred season of soft transitions and gentle reflection.

Rest. Appreciate. Trust in what’s to come.

With warmth & peace,
Lola
