SELF LOVE: A February Yoga Practice to Nurture Your Heart
Celebrate the Month of Love by Turning Inward
February is often seen as the month of love—but this year, I invite you to turn that love inward. Self-love is more than bubble baths and chocolate (though both are wonderful). True self-love is about nourishing your body, mind, and soul, and your yoga practice is the perfect space to begin.
This month, let’s create space to reconnect with ourselves, cultivate compassion, and move with loving intention.
Start with Intention: Ask What You Need
Before you begin your practice, pause.
Place your hand over your heart. Breathe in deeply and ask yourself:
“What do I need today?”
Maybe it’s rest.
Maybe it’s strength.
Maybe it’s simply space to feel grounded and supported.
Set your intention and allow it to guide your movement, breath, and energy throughout your flow.
Heart-Opening Yoga Poses for Self-Love
These postures invite emotional openness and self-compassion. Practice them mindfully, focusing on softening your heart and letting go of self-judgment:
- Camel Pose (Ustrasana)
A bold heart-opener that invites vulnerability. Lift your chest and breathe deeply to release stored tension and open to trust. - Low Lunge with Heart Opener
Sink into your base, then sweep your arms wide. Welcome in love and release what no longer serves. - Supported Fish Pose (Matsyasana)
Lay back on a block or bolster, letting your heart open gently. A restorative posture for emotional healing and self-acceptance.
Off the Mat: Everyday Acts of Self-Love
Your practice doesn’t end when you roll up your mat. Continue nurturing yourself throughout the day with small, meaningful moments:
- Mindful Breathing
Inhale clarity, exhale doubt. A few deep breaths can ground you in any situation. - Positive Self-Talk
Notice your inner dialogue. Replace criticism with kindness and compassion. - Set Boundaries with Love
It’s okay to say no. Protect your time, your energy, and your peace. - Celebrate the Small Wins
Finished a task? Took a walk? Showed up for yourself? That’s worth celebrating.
Closing with Gratitude: Honor Your Light
End your practice by settling into Savasana.
Take this time to reflect on what you appreciate about yourself:
- Your strength
- Your kindness
- Your resilience
Hold those truths close. Let gratitude fill your breath, your body, and your heart.
Final Reflection
Let your mat be more than a space for movement—let it be a sanctuary. A place where you feel supported, seen, and loved.
This February, remind yourself:
You are worthy of love—from others, and most importantly, from yourself.
Sending love and light,
Lola
